Mornings Well Spent: Make Your Bed

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day and it had me reflecting on my journey with my personal well being. My physical health journey started in 2017 and I was consistently working out, eating within reason, and building community. I was also not taking care of my mental health at all.

When 2020 hit and I was forced to stay home (because my restaurant job was only doing take out) I had nothing but time on my hands. Slowing down is just what I needed to get my mind right. I started journaling, meditating, and seeing a therapist. Taking that time for me was great but there was one more piece missing: how I started my day!

One morning in 2020 I decided I was going to make my bed EVERYDAY. That one life decision gave me the power to take on the day, start my business, and let the world know that I dictate how my life is going to be handled.

According to this article from Very Well Mind go in depth about the benefits of making your bed daily including better sleep, improved focus, and quality of life.

Still til this day I make my bed everyday (except if I’m staying at a hotel because housekeeping will do it for me). One small action has gave me the wonderful life I have now and it can change yours too. So if you are reading this and you haven’t made your bed today go do it!

Until the next blog,

Shantae
